With a potent blend of
oil and gold leaf, Monique Passicot’s small narrative
paintings leave the viewer in awe of the elegant painting style
and story that she brilliantly executes. The larger magnificent
paintings presented this year, illustrate an unusual surreal tale
of people masked as animals but with human anecdotal stories such
as Craigslisters, and Dolores Park. These dreamlike
paintings suggest a merging of opposites; man and woman, human and
beast, past and future, and reality and illusion. Passicot’s
paintings read like poetry. Images, like words, should move us on
a level that does not belong to the mind. |
