Jian Wang takes us on another poetic journey. Stepping into a minimalist realm of ordinary objects, he strikes a new cord of silent, contemplative space. Using less paint on the canvas than usual, Wang produces the light and shadow and reduced reflection needed to achieve the balance and form within the picture plane. It is a subtle and understated look, but carries the powerful strength seen in so many of his elegant, still life paintings.

The difference is a particular silence and calm created with a soft blue or green white mixture within background palette evoking a natural beauty for his selected items. Wang makes the objects appealing-never over done-and at the same time, the viewer comprehends a timeless expression of commonplace things.

Wang is a master draftsman, and may well be as inspiration to many emerging painters. His new compositions are meditative as he strives to look for the overall effect. These new paintings are thoughtfully placed in spaces ‘lost in the moment’. He deftly uses pure play between the compositional elements thus reaching a peaceful resolution and purity extending far beyond just the nature of the canvas.
