DAD - A Daughter's Art Dedication
The art world knows Peter VandenBerge as a sculptor,
to Camille he is a teacher, a mentor, a father – and a friend. DAD, Camille
VandenBerge's first solo show in seven years, is her tribute to her father's
influence; the playfulness and love for nature evident in his art deeply
informs Camille's own work. But it is also a gift to Peter, in gratitude
"for inspiring me to have faith in the goodness of the human heart.
Camille’s new pieces are more than sculptures; they
are acts of love, emblems of a daughter's appreciation for her father..
Those who know Camille's work will recognize her
remarkable female figures, the delicately elongated women whose interiority
invites the viewer into serene and lightly mysterious private worlds. But
they will also see new directions in her work; these figures no longer stand
alone. They're attended by familiars in the form of birds, insects, flowers
– even other humans.
"This show celebrates friendship," she says, "the
connection we share as creatures of the Earth." Camille honors that
connection with DAD, A Daughter's Art Dedication. -- Dr. Michael Shapiro
