“Recently I have been exploring trees as the focus of the painting within a supportive landscape. They represent the vertical thrust of energy as it reaches into the sky, bridging and anchoring those two very different realms of solid earth and the atmospheric. The tension between the vertical and horizontal elements is heightened and emphasized in this series. The conceptual basis is consistent with my earlier 'horizon' pieces as 'horizon' refers not only to the line at the edge of the earth plane but also to a threshold where a shift or change of state may occur.

No matter what aspect of the landscape is engaged, I consistently use multiple points of perspective to allow the painting to shift and change depending on where the viewer is standing. This emphasizes different perceptions from every angle and adds impact as you move farther away or up close to the surface. In combination with the intensely saturated colors you are fully immersed in the experience of the depicted scene.
