Known
for her fanciful ceramic shoes and purses, Julie
Didion embarks on another series of cleverly
fashioned clay mermaids. Her delicate manner
demonstrates painstaking and meticulous sculpting with
ideas that are both perky and dreamy. She configures
clay shapes that are delightfully articulate and
expressive, revealing imaginative, lighthearted
interpretations of ladies’ bags and shoes. At the same
time packing along the whimsy and verve in the use of
clay as a medium, Didion articulates her interpretation
of the age old mythical fantasy of goddess-like divas
that in reflecting their likeness in a mirror might
imagine how they can alter the image. Oh, if we could
only be like Snow White and dream of a Prince Charming.
