For Laureen Landau her primary interest is in the interplay between abstraction and imagery. The subject matter of her paintings continues to be in the combining of figures with landscape. The landscape has been changing over the last few years from the ponds of Land Park, through the rivers and lakes of the area to the oceans of this hemisphere. Laureen Landau’s most recent work is influenced by her experiences swimming and diving in the Caribbean, Mexico and Hawaii. The small scale of the work allows her to explore the quality of paint on paper and to let accidents dictate the nature of the work rather than to have preconceived ideas of what will happen.
